Media Artist, Design Researcher & Educator @ China Academy of Art
Biin SHEN (CN) is an artist whose work spans across art, design, technology, and societal themes. She holds an MA in Design Interactions from the Royal College of Art in London, where she studied under Professors Dunne & Raby. SHEN has presented at prestigious events such as the Design Futures International Conference at Tsinghua University and London Design Week. Her art has been featured in exhibitions globally, including notable venues like the Henry Moore Gallery, Bujara Media Art Center, Shanghai EXPO and Tokyo International Forum. In 2020, she was chosen as the sole media artist to represent China in the UNESCO Creative Cities initiative project.
Drawing upon her interdisciplinary background, she focuses on bridging technological imagination with the manifold potentialities of the future through her work. She posits that the way people interact with technology mirrors present-day societal conditions. Since 2012, SHEN has used her creative practice to participate in debates about issues that are increasingly urgent today. In addition to her artwork, curating has become an integral part of her practice; she also delves into the correlation between technology and humanity through her writing.
In recent years, she has advocated cross-disciplinary education in academic institutions across Asia, using world-building and speculative methodologies to nurture future creators. This strategy aims to pave the way for exploring emerging visual cultures and to promote research focused on the future society, where interdisciplinary knowledge and cutting-edge technology intersect.
