Bonnie Mitchell (US) is a new media artist and Professor at Bowling Green State University in Digital Arts, in Ohio, USA. Mitchell’s artworks explore spatial and experiential relationships to our physical, social, cultural, and psychological environment through animation, interaction, and immersion. Her current creative practice focuses on the development of physically immersive, animated environments that use data to visualize environmental and psychological changes over time. Mitchell often collaborates an electroacoustic composer to create abstract visual music installations and animation.

Bonnie Mitchell is currently the Director of the ACM SIGGRAPH History Archive and was the SIGGRAPH 2023 History Chair in charge of the 50th SIGGRAPH conference celebration. The showcase installation was a 38-meter-long x 7.5 meter-wide x 4.2 meter-high immersive Time Tunnel with interactive visualizations and an animated computer graphics timeline. Mitchell also organized the Retrospective Talks and exhibited showcases of graphics hardware and historic artifacts from 1960s onward.

Along with Wim van der Plas, Jan Searleman and Terry Wong Mitchell, Mitchell co-directs the ISEA (International Symposium on Electronic Arts) symposium online archives. She is a founding member of the international Connecting New Media Art Archives team and co-organized the Second Summit on New Media Art Archiving with Jan Searleman in 2022 in Barcelona. Mitchell also is a member of the ISEA International Advisory Committee and ACM SIGGRAPH History and Digital Arts (DAC) Committees. In 2019, she founded and now coordinates the ACM SIGGRAPH Digital Arts Committee SPARKS (Short Presentations of Art and Research for the Kindred Spirit) lecture series.

Collectively, Mitchell’s work has been shown in 6 continents and at numerous events including Ars Electronica (Mindware Award/Honorable Mention 1995), ISEA, SIGGRAPH, Punto y Raya, Visual Music Marathon, Melbourne and London International Animation Festivals, AnimaFest Croatia, iDMAa IDEAS Festival, International Computer Music Association Meeting (international commission award winner), Society for Electro-acoustic Music, Les Sommets du Cinema d’Animation at the Cinémathèque Québécoise, and many more.
