Head of the department for Experimental Game Cultures @ University of Applied Arts Vienna
Margarete Jahrmann (AT), is a ludic artist and media theorist, full university professor and head of the new department for Experimental Game Cultures at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. She leads the artistic research projects Neuromatic Game Art. Critical Play with Neurointerfaces (FWF/PEEK) and “Biological Interfaces, Ludic Cultures and Non–human Agencies. Games of/in/with/beyond Life“.
In her collaborative and interdisciplinary artistic practise, she explores the human condition by creating virtual, performative as well as installative “Ludic” works, dealing with emerging technologies and play as core principle to intervene to contemporary global challenges. She received among other rewards the reknown prix ars electronica distinction in interactive arts 2003, the Berlin transmediale software arts award 2004 and was awarded the Media Arts price of the City of Vienna in 2020.
