Artist, designer, researcher & educator @ National Tsing Hua University

Scottie Chih-Chieh Huang (TW) is an Associate Professor of Art, Architecture, and Design at the Center for General Education and the Interdisciplinary Program of Technology and Art at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Taiwan. As the leader of the BioLogicDesign (BLD) Lab, he explores biologically-inspired computing to create novel aesthetics in generative graphic art and kinetic structural systems. His research spans shape-changing interfaces, recursive growth computation, creative robotics, interactive art, and kinetic structures, which have been exhibited and published internationally, including at venues like ZKM, NYSCI, Kinetica Museum, Erarta Museum, Fukuoka Art Museum, NTMoFA, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Milan Design Week, Dutch Design Week, ACM SIGGRAPH/SIGGRAPH Asia, VISAP, CHI, ALIFE, ISEA, and CAAD Futures.

In 2024, Scottie established a research laboratory dedicated to robotic fabrication in art, focusing on integrating Taiwan’s local materials and traditional crafting techniques such as jade and wood carving with cutting-edge digital fabrication. His work combines computer graphics, robotic-assisted manufacturing, and interactive technologies to innovate materiality and explore novel aesthetic expressions.
