Victoria Szabo

Victoria Szabo (US) is a Research Professor of Art, Art History & Visual Studies and Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies at Duke University, where she also directs the PhD Program in Computational Media, Arts & Cultures and the Certificate Program in Information Science + Studies. Her published research, teaching, and creative practice focus on archives-driven and location-based approaches to digital storytelling and cultural heritage, with an emphasis on augmented reality and hybrid installations and exhibitions. She co-leads the ISS lab and XR Studio at Duke, and collaborates in the Digital Art History and Visual Culture Research lab, as well as with the international Visualizing Cities consortium on digital projects and exhibitions. She is also a partner in the Psychasthenia Studio collective, which has produced the Psychasthenia series of artist’s games. She has received grants from the Getty Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Archives in the US in support of her work.

Szabo is currently the Chair of the ACM SIGGRAPH Arts Advisory Group, and will serve as Art Papers Chair for SIGGRAPH 2025 in Vancouver. She was Art Papers Chair at SIGGRAPH Asia in 2023 in Sydney and has also served as Art Gallery and Art Papers Chair for prior SIGGRAPH conferences. She also chaired the Information Aesthetics Showcase at SIGGRAPH 2009 in New Orleans.
